Soulsbyville Elementary Attempting To Stop Unhealthy Weight Gain Among Students

Soulsbyville, CA -- Soulsbyville Elementary is the first Tuolumne County school to conduct Body Mass Index (BMI) screenings of the children.

According to the school, results show that almost a third of Soulsbyville students are at-risk for health problems because of their weight.

Tonight the school will hold an informational meeting for parents on the importance of achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. On hand will be Dr. Jennifer Trujillo (pediatrician) and Stephanie Russell (registered dietician) at 6:30pm in the Soulsbyville gymnasium. Each Soulsbyville students BMI screening results will be provided to parents at the meeting. Interested community members are also welcome to attend the presentation.

In addition, Soulsbyville will be introducing a six week "Family Fit" program. It is designed to help families establish healthier eating habits, live a more active lifestyle, increase fitness and self esteem, and have fun together.
