Sonora, CA -- At midnight this evening, with the exception of the Skilled Nursing Facility and the Psych Unit, the doors will close forever on county owned and operated Tuolumne General Hospital.
The midnight closure will mark the end of a 158 year period in which T.G.H. has served the county. By a 4-1 vote of the County's Board of Supervisors two months ago, the decision was made to close the hospital with the exception of the two aforementioned facilities. First District Supervisor Liz Bass voted to close the hospital and the Rural Health Care Clinics. Over the past two years, T.G.H. has drained $15.7 million for the county's general fund.
With the exclusion of the aforemention departments, all other services will now be transfered to Sonora Regional Medical Center.
