Jamestown, CA -- Traffic was rerouted at the Yosemite Junction of Highways 108/120 Monday evening when a suspicious object was discovered by Norman Burke who was cleaning trash as part of the Adopt A Highway Program.
Burk noticed an object wrapped in black electrical tape at 6:25. He flagged down a CAL FIRE engine. The C.H.P. immediately responded and moved everyone 150 yards from the device. According to C.H.P. Officer Tom Wills the Bomb Squad from the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department exploded the device. A secondary explosion indicated it was an explosive device. There were no injuries from either one of the explosions.
CALTRANS handled the cleanup and the highways were reopened at eleven o'clock.
