Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - 01:00 PM
Tuolumne County Administration Officer (CAO) Craig Pedro.

Sonora, CA -- According to Tuolumne County CAO Craig Pedro the current healthcare reform legislation being discussed in Sacramento in downright scary.

Pedro made that remark at this morning's Board of Supervisors' meeting at the County Administration Center.

Pedro acknowledged there would be a significant change under ABXII with the shifting of a number of responsibilities from the counties to the state.

He added that there are a number of disturbing aspects including hospital contributions, employers' fees and individual mandates.

Pedro admitted that the current system is broken, but at the same time he feels legislators are rushing to a conclusion that has not been adequately researched.

Pedro stated that the Assembly is hoping to finalize its draft by the first of December and then pass it along to the Senate so Governor Schwarzenegger can sign it prior to the end of the year.
