Columbia, Ca -- A Hamburg, Germany production company made a stop at Columbia State Historic Park Wednesday to film a portion of a documentary entitled “The History of Jeans.”
The piece is charting the history of famous Gold Rush Bavarian Levi Straus. According to Tuolumne County Film Commissioner Jerry Day, the production crew interviewed Jim Miller, proprietor of the J.C. Miller Carpentry Shop, about the garments of the early miner. Most of the scenes were filmed within the Fancy Dry Goods and Clothing Store, where fabrics of the era are on display.
In the 1850's, Straus imported dry goods such as clothing, umbrellas, handkerchiefs and bolts of fabric and sold them to small stores that were starting across California and the West.
Vincent, the company shooting the documentary, is planning for the piece to air on German television early next year.
