San Andreas, Ca -- Chair of the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, Bill Claudino, feels that the passage of Measure J was the top accomplishment of 2007.
Measure J, a $31 million bond that will help fund the construction of a new jail facility, was approved by voters during the November General Election. “Having a law enforcement background, I know that it is very difficult to run any part of the administration of justice if you have no custodial facility,” says Claudino. “We literally have no jail here, felonies only, because there is no room at the inn.”
Claudino notes that the County is currently in negations to purchase a 56 acre piece of property, located directly north of the Calaveras County Government Center, to build a new facility.
Claudino says other highlights include hiring a new County Administrator (Robert Lawton) and working on the General Plan Update.
Issues to be resolved in the coming future include dealing with the budget and hiring a new Public Works Director.
