Sonora, Ca -- The California Highway Patrol has begun its New Year's Weekend Maximum Enforcement Period, meaning that 80 percent of available officers are on the road looking for the DUI Driver, those driving over the speed limit and seat belt violators.
The Maximum Enforcement Period began at 6pm Friday and will continue until 11:59pm Tuesday. Last year 38 people were killed during the News Year's weekend on California roadways, and 1,481 were arrested for DUI.
