Threatening E-Mail Surfaces In Mother Lode

Sonora, Ca -- Many across the Mother Lode have reported receiving an e-mail with the subject title “LIVE OR DIE,” within the past day.

Within the e-mail's five paragraphs, the author writes that you will be killed unless you pay $8,000 now and $7,000 later. It goes on to imply that family members will be at risk, if you contact law enforcement or anyone else.

The Sheriff's Department has received multiple reports of residents receiving this particular e-mail as of Friday morning.

Lt. Dan Bressler says the best way to deal with this e-mail is to simply click delete, and understand that it is a scam.

According to media reports, this e-mail has surfaced in numerous places across the country.

Bressler adds that if anyone feels that they are in danger they can always contact the Sheriff's Office, and it will be dealt with on a case by case basis. He notes that similar type e-mail scams occur regularly, and the best thing to do is simply erase the messages.
