Summerville Grad Hopes For More Wins On The Racetrack

Thursday, May 08, 2008 - 06:00 AM
Late Model Driver Matt Pedroni

Sonora, Ca -- Sonora's Matt Pedroni has high aspirations in his budding racing career.

The 2001 Summerville High graduate has compiled 13 wins over the past two years while competing at both Antioch and Peteluma Speedways. Currently he can be spotted racing his mini late model stock car at Marysville Raceway Park on Saturday nights.

Pedroni says his passion for racing started at around age nine when he would attend sprint car races at San Jose Speedway with his father. While he initially focused on baseball growing up, his attention turned to racing five years ago.

“I have a great group of guys that help out,” says Pedroni. “There's a lot of nights that we're working until one or two in the morning to get the car ready for Saturday.”

Pedroni's pit team is led by Crew Chief Richard Hamilton. Pedroni says his hope is to eventually land a ride with a NASCAR Craftsman Truck team.
