Sonora, CA -- Tuolumne County will honor peace officers killed in the line of duty this past year during a noon ceremony at Courhouse Park today.

A number of law enforcement agencies will be on hand including the Sonora Police Department, the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department, the California Highway Patrol, the U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service and the Department of Corrections.

According to figures released by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund there were 181 federal, state and local law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in 2007. The California Peace Officers Memorial reported nine officers killed in the line of duty last year.

The 35 minute ceremony will include a long bugler playing taps, a 21 gun salute, presentation of the colors, the playing of bagpipes and the tolling of the Courthouse bells.

The keynote speaker will be the Honorable James A. Boscoe of the Tuolumne County Superior Court.
