Sonora, Ca -- The Sonora High Girls Soccer team is headed to the Sac-Joaquin Division IV championship game.

In a hard fought battle, the girls defeated the Dixon Rams of Solano County 2-0 Thursday evening at Dunlavy Field.

Four minutes into the game, senior Rebecca Castro found fellow senior Lexi Kopf who was able to score a quick goal to put Sonora in the lead. Later in the contest, Leanna Castro found the net to put Sonora up 2-0.

Head Coach Buzz Garvin credits the girls for finding a way to score early, and playing stout defense the entire game. He notes that the high temperatures at game time put a strain on both teams. “It was a very hot day,” says Garvin. “Our girls were getting tired, so I'm sure their girls were getting tired too.”

The championship game is set for Saturday morning at Folsom High against either West Campus of Sacramento or Colfax.
