Jamestown, CA -- According to Lt. Jimmy Hurtado, 35 year old George Landcheco Lopez was captured at approximately 10pm Tuesday at the Chinese Camp Fire Station.
Lopez escaped from the Sierra Conservation Center a week ago today during the one o'clock hour. He had been working outside the Center's wall in a carpenter shop. Sunday afternoon the local search was cancelled as prison officials had received no indication that he was still in the area.
Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock S.C.C. received a call from the Special Services Unit in Sacramento with a tip that Lopez was in the Chinese Camp area.
At 8pm Lopez was spotted. Additional staff was deployed and at 10pm Lopez was taken into custody without incident.
Lopez is currently being interrogated in the Administrative Segregation Unit. He will then return to court where the District Attorney's office will determine the length of time that will be added to his sentence given his escape effort.
