New Judge Selected for Peterson TrialTuesday, January 27, 2004 - 03:05 PM
There's a new judge on the Scott Peterson murder trial. Prosecutors had challenged the previous judge's appointment -- as they're allowed to do one time without cause.
The new judge, 72-year-old retired judge Alfred Delucchi, was picked by the chief justice of the California Supreme Court. One defense lawyer describes the new judge as "evenhanded" and "an excellent judge." Delucchi has presided over 22 death penalty trials.
Peterson faces the death penalty if convicted of two counts of murder for allegedly killing his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son.
