School in Angels Camp. The Calaveras County Public Health Department will offer the H1N1 flu vaccine to persons who are at higher risk of serious illness from the H1N1 flu. County health officials stated that delays in vaccine delivery mean that the vaccine needs to be prioritized. The federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that the following persons: Pregnant women: Pregnant women are having high rates of serious illness and hospitalization from the new H1N1 flu.Persons 6 months - 24 years of age: Children and young adults have the highest rates of H1N1 flu and children under 1 year of age have very high rates of hospitalization. Persons 25-64 years who have medical conditions that put them at higher risk for complications: This includes persons with respiratory problems (including asthma), heart or kidney conditions, a weakened immune system, diabetes, neurological or neuromuscular conditions. Having an underlying medical condition is the greatest risk factor for flu complications, including death.Persons who live with or care for an infant under 6 months old: Infants under 6 months of age cannot receive flu vaccine.
