“Zero Tolerance” Cell Phone Use Day

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA– Next week local law enforcement agencies are joining forces to crack down on motorists illegally using cell phones.

Monday and Tuesday the California Highway Patrol, Sonora Police Department and Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office will be having a “Zero Tolerance” cell phone use day.

According to the CHP, there have been an increase in the number of traffic collisions caused by teen drivers using cell phones while driving. Central Valley law enforcement agencies along with the Mother Lode will direct enforcement efforts around high schools as well.

“We’ll have extra officers focusing on cell phone use,” said CHP Officer Mike Remmel. “We’ll be writing citations for everyone we see using a cell phone while they’re driving.”
