Mother Lode ""Super Tuesday"" Primary Election Results

Sonora and San Andreas, CA -- In the Republican race for president Senator John McCain easily carried both Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties while Hillary Clinton was the landslide winner in both counties for the Democratic nomination.

In the Tuolumne County Republican race McCain received 3,155 votes (38%) while runnerup Mitt Romney accounted for 2,698 votes (33%). Arkansas´ Mike Huckabee finished a distant third with 1,241 votes (15%).

In the Democratic race, Clinton finished with 3,759 votes (48%) while Barack Obama collected 2,940 votes (37%).

In the Calaveras County Republican race, McCain captured 2,496 votes (40%), Romney garnered 2,032 votes (32%) while Huckabee finished with 834 votes (13%).

In the Demcratic race, Clinton was the winner with 2,895 votes (49%) while Obama finished with 2,171 votes (37%).

Both counties voted identically when it came to the seven California state ballot measures.

Of the 31,659 registered voters in Tuolumne County, 17,838 cast ballots for a 56% turnout. Of the 26,938 registered voters in Calaveras County, 13,785 cast ballots for a 51% turnout.
