It helps to put acorns or seedlings in gopher cages (1" chickenwire twice around and bottom crimped in) for better survivability. Seedlings from Mary Anderson's nursery were planted in gopher cages and grow tubes had a 95% survival rate. Watering schedule depends on soil type and weather.

QD is an amazing and under appreciated tree. I have many on my property and have found that they withstand pruning very well. They pose much less fire hazard than the oily-leaved live oaks so a few closer to the deck are OK. Gall wasps love their leaves and do no damage. Some years they even have "good" fall color!
