We have informed Tuolumne County Law Enforcement as well as Kingsview Mental Health that Jesse Burkett was not only a risk to himself but to others for the past ten years. It was only a matter of time before someone became the victim of his disease. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim of this carjacking. We were told by authorities that they could not do anything to help Jesse until he actually hurt or harmed someone or himself. This is a very sick individual with diagnosis of major mental problems and was left out into our society to hurt or harm others. Something has got to change. Do we continue to just let mentally disturbed people roam the community until something like this happens? I cry not only for this poor woman who was victimized but for my grandson who NEVER got the proper help he has needed. I hope that each and every person (and you know who you are) that released Jesse from hospitals and those of you who quoted the words "not until he harms another" can rest well tonight.
