San Andreas, CA — New pedestrian and bicycle connections will be constructed as part of the San Andreas Pope Street Safe Routes to School project.
It encompasses the area around San Andreas Elementary School, connecting Main Street, Pope Street, Lewis Avenue, California Street, Treat Avenue, and Nielson Road. There will also be new high-visibility crosswalks, lighting, and speed tables.
An initial public meeting was held in April, and since that time, there has been environmental clearance gained and refinements to the project design.
A meeting where Calaveras County Public Works officials will provide an update is coming up this Tuesday, October 7, from 5-7 pm at the San Andreas Elementary School Gymnasium.
Exhibits will be set up showing how the proposed improvements interface with the adjacent properties.
Construction is currently planned for 2028.
