Update: Fatal Crash On Highway 108

Update at 4:45 p.m.: The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s office has released the name of the individual killed in a rollover crash on Highway 108. The deceased driver has been identified as 29-year-old Maryah Genevieve-estella Bunce of Sonora. Further details on the collision can be viewed below.

Original post at 1:37 p.m.: Sonora, CA – A fatal solo vehicle rollover collision yesterday evening on Highway 108 in the area of east Sonora claimed the life of the driver.

CHP units responded to the crash west of Peaceful Oak Road around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. The deceased is an unidentified 29-year-old Sonora woman, whose name is not being released pending family notification. She was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Bug westbound on the highway at an unknown speed when the crash occurred. Sonora Area CHP Public Information Officer Steven Machado reports, “The driver allowed the Volkswagen to travel across the eastbound lane and off the south road edge, where it overturned. The driver was unbelted and was ejected from the vehicle.”

Despite lifesaving efforts, the driver succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Machado added, “It is suspected that DUI played a factor in this crash.”
