Sonora, CA — According to Stanislaus National Forest Spokesman Jerry Snyder, firefighters have been hampered in reaching the five acre vegetation fire in the south county because of the Lumpston Rd. washout.
C.D.F., Stanislaus National Forest and Madera-Mariposa units are attempting to access the fire on Cottonwood Rd. through the Jawbone area.
C.D.F. air tankers along with one helocopter and air attack were utilized during the early evening hours. With retardant down and the arrival of darkness and cooling temperatures, it is hoped the spread of the fire will be reduced.
The fire was initially reported at 7pm. At this time there does not appear to be any imminent danger to residents and/or structures in this extremely isolated area of south Tuolumne County.
No cause of the fire has been determined at this hour.
