Annual Roadside Weed Spraying To Begin

Calaveras County, CA – The Annual Roadside Weed Control Spraying is set to begin next week; the Calaveras Public Works Department details how to opt out.

Crews will begin spraying county roads on Monday, October 20, 2025. County public works officials state, “Roadside weed spraying is important to prevent weeds from encroaching on the edges of roads. This encroachment can obstruct drivers’ views, lead to road damage, and fuel wildfires. County staff typically sprays a 6-foot swath of land immediately next to roads twice annually.” The spraying activity is dependent on weather.”

For property owners who wish to opt out of spraying on specific sections of their parcels that border county-maintained roads, the following two steps are required:

1. Call Public Works at (209) 754-6401 no later than October 16, 2025, to place your name and parcel address on the NO SPRAY list, and leave a message confirming:
2. Your name, parcel # and physical address (not mailing address).
3. The approximate location and length of zones on your parcel(s) on which you do not want roadside spraying to occur.

2. Place clearly legible signs (large enough to be seen from a moving truck) on two (2) locations of your parcel, per no no-spray zone:
3. First sign shall read BEGIN NO SPRAY ZONE.
4. Second sign shall read END NO SPRAY ZONE.
5. Note: as all roadside spraying will occur from the right side of the road only, ensure that the first sign encountered by the operator is BEGIN NO SPRAY ZONE.
6. Sufficient signage shall be visible from the road. NOTE: If your parcel’s fence line does not directly about the road, consider mounting your sign to stakes driven near enough to the road for the operator to clearly see them.
