Caltrans District 10 plans to temporarily close Sonora and Ebbetts Pass next week due to stormy weather—Caltrans graphic
Sonora, CA – Caltrans District 10, which includes the Mother Lode, will temporarily close two of the mountain passes next week, as stormy weather has been forecasted in the high country.
In Tuolumne County, Highway 108 Sonora Pass will be temporarily closed from Kennedy Meadows (eastbound) to just west of the Marine Corps Training Center (westbound) beginning Monday (10/13) at 11 a.m. through Thursday (10/16/25) at noon.
Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass in Calaveras County will also be temporarily closed for the incoming storm next week. The closure will extend from Raymond Meadows (westbound) to Lake Alpine (eastbound) beginning Monday (10/13) at noon through Thursday (10/16) at noon.
State road officials noted, “Caltrans issues temporary pass closures for high-elevation mountain highways when weather reports and storm forecasts indicate icy road conditions or the required use of traction control devices.”
It is unclear whether Highway 120 Tioga Pass, which is maintained by Yosemite National Park, will also temporarily close next week. We reached out to park officials, and they have not yet responded.
Caltrans asks motorists to please plan accordingly if traveling over Sonora and Ebbetts passes next week.
