Washington, D.C. — Reports of illness continue to trickle into the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta due to an E-coli outbreak linked to fresh spinach.

Federal health officials say they are investigating whether a more potent strain of E-coli is behind the outbreak that has sickened at least 131 people, half of whom have been hospitalized. A 77 year old Wisconsin woman has already died from the E-coli bacteria found in spinach.

Investigators are continuing to look into the possibility the bacteria originated in the Salinas area.
