San Andreas, CA — September 30, 2006 is National Public Lands Day and many local parks are getting in on the action.
Calaveras Big Trees State Park will host Bern Kreissman of the Sierra Club for a hike and discussion.
The Army Corps of Engineers will hold a workday at New Hogan Lake Saturday, September 30. Free camping is being offered to the first 50 groups that sign up. A barbecue lunch and prizes are also included. Projects at New Hogan may include tree planting, trail work, and habitat restoration.
And on Saturday, October 21 at New Melones, the project for National Public Lands Day will consist of trail work on the Norwegian Gulch Interpretive Trail.
Participants will receive a gold rush era lunch, living history presentations and entertainment. Free campsites are also provided for out of area volunteers.
