Sonora, CA– The Special Olympics is right around the corner and organizers say they are in need of volunteers.
Special Olympics Director, Sabrina Harwell says the year round event includes activities such as soccer, floor hockey, basketball, volleyball and track and field. After several months of training for a sport, participants then compete in a tournament.
If participants do well in their activity, they will have the opportunity to move on to a qualifier division and then, the championships. Harwell says they are in need of volunteers who can dedicate two hours, three times a week, for three months per sport.
She says support from the community is not only needed momentarily, but on a consistent basis as the program cannot run without donations from the community. Those interested in donating or volunteering can contact Harwell at 984-2183.
