Mi- Wok, CA– Many Mother Lode Residents are seeing smoke along Highway 108, but Stanislaus National Forest officials say there is no need to worry.
Since Wednesday, the Mi- Wok Ranger District has been conducting a 300 acre prescribed burn four miles south of Long Barn. According to the US Forest Service, the reason for the burn is to reduce flammable forest fuels, reduce the potential for damage by uncontrolled wildfire, and improve wildlife habitat for deer, while producing an extra measure of protection for firefighters and the public.
Officials say the completion of the burn will depend on the weather, fuel moisture, and air quality days. They say smoke will be visible along the Highway 108 corridor.
