Rail Road Flat, CA — A good-sized crowd is expected at a ceremony Saturday to honor the naming of a local bridge after a longtime local resident.
More than 400 residents signed a petition to name the Mokelumne River bridge on Rail Road Flat Road after Jess E. Mechling, a life long resident of Rail Road Flat.
A dedication ceremony at noon will shut down one lane of traffic on the road. After that, folks will gather at the Rail Road Flat Community Hall to tell stories and review a historical family timeline.
Mechling´s daughter Patty says the signs on the bridge are already up although her dad doesn´t know it since they are covered with plastic.
The 84-year old was a logging truck driver and met his wife of 60 years Lavonna Eddy while he worked at the Rail Road Flat Store.
