Tuolumne County, CA — Effective Thursday, November 16 Sonora Pass (Hwy 108) was closed to motorists for the winter months.
That announcement was made by Caltrans. Public Information Officer Troy Bowers says the pass received four inches of snow Thursday. He added that conditions have become extremely icy.
Bowers adds the closure date is very typical. Over the past couple of years it has become traditional that Sonora Pass close in November.
The earliest closure of Sonora Pass in recent years was October of 2004. The latest closure came just a year later when Hwy 108 over the Sierra Nevada was closed in December of 2005.
