The Beans … They Are A Cookin’

Sonora, CA — Come rain or shine, and it´ll be more of the former than the latter today, G.A. (Galen) Mutzner is ready for his 19th Annual Mutz´s Bean Feed in downtown Sonora.

Located at Linoberg and Washington Street, Mutzner´s giant pot of beans will be feeding hundreds of Mother Lode residents for as long as the beans last.

Mutzner initiated what has become a Sonora Christmas Season tradition because he and his wife Marilyn (she goes by the nickname Sissy) wanted to give something back to the community and that´s exactly what they do.

But they can´t do it without help. Each year locals, along with a number of Valley residents, help with the setup, the serving and the teardown. One year a friend came all the way from Ohio to help with the event. Even today a crew from Heuton Memorial Chapel set up a tent for protection from the “liquid sunshine.”

Mutz´s Bean Feed starts at noon.
