San Andreas, CA — During a ceremony Monday Calaveras County Sheriff Dennis Downum honored deputies for going above and beyond the call of duty.
Deputies Wayne Newnam and Dan Dentone were given the Life Saving Medal for saving the life of a Bret Harte High School student who was trapped inside a burning vehicle.
Seven deputies received the Unit Citation Award for their work on a rash of burglaries in Copperopolis. Eventually, $75,000 in stolen property was recovered and several Russian Nationals were arrested.
Detectives Mike Whitney and Rachelle Whiting were bestowed the Medal of Merit for their work recovering a stolen Civil War era cannon. Sergeants Dan Johnson and Dennis Huberty were also given the Medal of Merit for developing the automated Technical Management Information System.
The annual ceremony was held in front of the Sheriff´s Office at the Government Center in San Andreas.
