Sonora, CA — The Sonora City Planning Commission is scheduled to address the issue of a new Lowes Home Improvement Center in a special session next week.
The subject has drawn the attention of several groups and agencies that say the project needs a closer look before it should proceed.
California Gold Development of Sonora is proposing the new big-box store at the corner of Old Wards Ferry and Sanguinetti Roads near Wal-Mart on what´s known as the old slaughterhouse property.
The project has drawn keen opposition from those who say the development´s environmental impact statement is flawed. California Gold issued a letter of response saying it had conducted economic and environmental studies on the proposed site which were included in the city´s environmental assessment.
The commission is expected to hand down its vote on the project at the meeting scheduled for 6:00 next Wednesday evening (6/22) at the Council Chambers on North Washington Street.
