Tuolumne, CA — Boosters at Summerville High School are struggling with a recent board decision not to fund the school´s Junior ROTC program.
The decision means that if the program is to be saved, $32,000 must be raised by June 14th, then an additional $32,000 will be needed by mid-October.
The board nearly voted to discontinue the program May 31st, but decided to give supporters a chance to raise the money to keep the program alive.
Booster Julie Wurz says the JROTC program is a public service group that is well worth the community´s support. Backers of the program say that if it is discontinued, it most likely will never be brought back because of the school´s size.
Supporters say JROTC students have invested more than 22,000 hours of community service since the program´s inception in 1988.
