Buttonwillow, CA — Two Salinas residents are dead after a head-on collision on State Route 46 over the weekend.
Police say four others, including a three-month-old infant were seriously injured in the crash shortly after 2:30 in the afternoon Saturday.
Reports indicate 21-year-old Theresa Nguyen was driving a 1999 Lincoln eastbound on the highway when she attempted to pass a tractor-trailer without enough room.
Investigators say a 1996 Chrysler was approaching in the westbound lane which caused Nguyen to take evasive action. Reports indicate the two vehicles then collided on the north side shoulder of the highway. The collision reportedly caused the infant seat to be ejected from the Lincoln.
The unidentified infant and the driver of the Chrysler were transported to Kern Medical Center while Nguyen and a passenger in the Chrysler were transported to Memorial Hospital in Modesto.
The driver and passenger in the Chrysler later died of their injuries.
