Merced, CA — The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is gearing up for fire season by increasing its workforce.
CDF officials say they will be hiring 47 seasonal fire fighters Monday. The crew members will undergo a five-day training period to review basic operational skills, and become re-certified in hazardous materials awareness, CPR and confined space rescue.
The CDF will reportedly staff 11 stations with 12 engines beginning Monday. CDF officials say warmer temperatures and lower humidity are quickly drying out grass and brush and its time for residents to get ready for fire season.
CDF encourages homeowners to clear away a 100-foot defensible space around their houses.
