Modesto, CA — A jury awarded a former basketball coach at California State University, Stanislaus $540,000 after finding race a factor in his job loss.
Mike Terpstra, who is white, argued that the university let his contract expire because it wanted to replace him with a black coach.
Stanislaus State Vice President Bill Ruud said he was disappointed with the verdict and is considering an appeal.
Terpstra, who led the team to its best season in a decade before being let go, said he was vindicated by the jury´s award.
