Commission Approves Funding Study Of Suicide Barrier

San Francisco, CA — A regional transportation group today approved a $1.6 million study of a potential suicide barrier on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Since the bridge was built in 1937, an estimated 13,000 people have jumped from what many consider the world´s leading site for suicides. An average of 20 people jump off the bridge each year.

Building the barrier is estimated to cost between $15 million and $25 million.
