Undated — U.S. Forest officials say they´re dealing with a lack of funding to re-forest more than 2000 acres of the Stanislaus National Forest scorched by the Darby fire four years ago.
The non-profit group Forest Foundation has launched a public service campaign timed to coincide with Friday´s Arbor Day activities. The campaign focuses on several forests where the re-planting remains delayed.
A report by the Government Accountability Office to the House forests sub-committee says the replanting backlog has grown because of a lack of money.
The federal report identifies about 900,000 acres of forest land nationwide that needs to be replanted.
