National Forest Campgrounds Could Be Closed

Forestry officials are considering a proposal to close down more national forest campsites because of budget problems.

Forest mangers will determine which ones will stay open by ranking recreation sites from top to bottom. Those ranking at the top of the list will stay open while those toward the bottom may be closed.

Officials attribute the anticipated closures to a Bush administration proposal to make a 27% cut to Forest Service Facilities and the maintenance budget.

State campgrounds will not be closed thanks to fee increases that go into effect July 1st.
