Sierra Nevada National Forest is now listed on the California Wilderness Coalition´s top 10 list of the most threatened wild places in California due to logging activity.
Here are a few other areas which made the list. A wilderness study area that borders Yosemite National Park utilized by snowmobilers puts that area on the top 10 list . The Wilderness Coalition lists the Mojave National Preserve desert as being among the most threatened because of roadways and the Owens Valley Wildlands where groundwater is being lost. The Algodones Sand Dunes which allows off-road vehicles and the Cleveland and Los Padres National Forests, where develpments are taking place respectively places each of these on the list. Rounding out the list of the most threatened wild places in California are the Salmon and Klamath Rivers. Farmers claim they need the water from these rivers , despite opposing views from Native Americans and local fishermen.
