A unanimous, 5 – 0 vote on Tuesday, from the Turlock Irrigation District board means that the visitors center at Don Pedro Reservoir will soon be receiving an upgrade. The first phase is scheduled to be completed by the Spring of 2006. This first phase would include adding meeting room, adding new heating and cooling systems and large energy efficient double pane windows overlooking Don Pedro Dam. The anticipated cost is $390,000 and will be funded by recreation income. The eventual second phase would upgrade exhibits surrounding Don Pedro´s operations. The exhibits have generally not been updated for 34 years. This would help to educate visitors on several aspects of Don Pedro Reservoir as to its history, wildlife and the benefits of irrigation and hydropower. The second phase would cost nearly half a million dollars and would begin only if outside grants can be obtained.
