SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) __ A Mexicana airlines flight taking off from San Jose Friday had to turn around and make an emergency landing after seagulls were drawn into the left engine and damaged it.
Airport spokesman Rich Dressler says the impact caused the engine to pop so loudly that passengers, pilots and people on the ground at the airport could hear it.
Mexicana flight number nine-five-three turned around and landed safely just moments after takeoff. The passengers had to make alternate plans to make their destination. The Boeing seven-57 will remain out of commission until repairs are made.
