Rain, Snow Help Farmers Water Woes

Heavy rain and snow in the Sierra may prove to be a boon for Northern California farmers.

Many growers purchase their water from the federal Central Valley Project. The project is operated by the Bureau of Reclamation. B.O.R officials say they now expect to be able to deliver at least 65-percent of the water its contracted to allocate to farmers. Water District spokesman Tupper Hall says the first water allocation forecast from the Bureau was for just 60-percent of its contracted water delivery to growers, and that had the Ag-industry concerned.

Hall says farmers use the Bureau´s forecast for water deliveries to help plan their crops.
