Horse Owners Urged To Prepare For West Nile Virus

Mother Lode equestrians are being urged to vaccinate their horses against West Nile Virus as soon as possible.

Veterinarians recommend that horses be vaccinated against the potentially fatal illness during February and March, before mosquitoes become active. West Nile is a mosquito-borne virus and killed more than 200 horses in the golden state last year. Health officials say the virus turned up in each of California´s 58 counties last year and they fear there may be even more cases in 2005.
