A pair of Madera residents remain in the hospital and a 19-year old Turlock woman is behind bars in Tuolumne County Jail after a head-on crash on Highway 49 near Rolling Hills Drive on Saturday morning.
CHP Officer Tom Wills says 19-year old Katrina Mommi was travelling westbound on the highway at a high rate of speed. Wills says Mommi was allegedly going 70 mile-per-hour in a 45-mile-per hour zone and was passing vehicles by driving in the eastbound lane when her car collided with another car being driving by Mark Gray.
Gray and his wife were taken to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment of major injuries. They both underwent surgery on Monday and continue to recover. Mommi faces a variety of charges, including driving under the influence of drugs.
