A potentially contentious debate regarding the Calaveras County Council of Governments is anticipated when the Board of Supervisors meet in San Andreas Monday.
The previous Board had voted to disband the COG, effective in June. The Council of Governments also has representatives from Angels Camp and is focused on the growing county´s transportation issues. Second District Supervisor Steve Wilensky says some past board members felt COG wasn´t focused enough on the county´s transportation needs and was allowing the county to pay for a disproportionate amount of transportation projects within the City of Angels.
Wilesnky says he´ll vote in favor of rescinding the previous vote to abolish COG. He credits the group with expanding public transportation in Calaveras County and taking a regional approach to the area´s transportation needs. City Council members in Angels Camp have indicated that they support continuing participation in the Council of Governments as well. Monday´s meeting gets underway at 10 a.m.
