Sacramento, CA — California health officials have suspend a program to issue identification cards to patients who smoke pot for medicinal purposes.
The decision was announced today by State Health Director Sandra Shewry.
The move comes weeks after the U-S Supreme Court ruled that medical marijuana users could be prosecuted federally even in states with laws authorizing cannabis use for people with a doctor´s recommendation.
Officials have asked the state Attorney General to determine whether the state I-D program would leave state employees open to prosecution for helping individuals commit a federal crime.
