Sonora, CA — Members of the 4-H club had a banner day at the Mother Lode Fair over the weekend as a year of hard work came to fruition at the event´s livestock auctions.
Organizer Ron Hamilton says after all was said and done, more than 120 animals were sold and a record $255,000 was brought in.
He says the highest selling pig went for $30 a pound and another went for $22. He says the highest price paid for a lamb was $19 a pound.
Hamilton says the sellers use the money for several different purposes, such as college, next year´s projects or even charitable donations.
Hamilton says all of the community support to the organization year after year is very much appreciated.
