Copperopolis, CA — Calaveras County Sheriff´s Deputies have a man in custody on drug charges after encountering him near Copperopolis Tuesday night.
The Sheriff´s Department says deputies came across a parked car at the Vista Point lookout on Highway 4 at about 10:30 and found 40-year-old Peter Canton of Dorrington inside.
Officers say they immediately discovered that Canton was in possession of paraphernalia and marijuana.
A further search of the vehicle turned up what deputies say was a baggie containing a crystal substance they believed to be methamphetamine.
Canton was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.
He was remanded into the Calaveras County Jail on $65,000 bail.
