Groveland, CA — One person is dead and another hospitalized with serious injuries following a single vehicle accident on highway 120 this morning.
CHP says the unidentified couple was riding westbound in a 2000 Toyota Camry near Buck Meadows at about 7:00 this morning when the car approached a curve in the road.
Investigators say that for unknown reasons the driver allowed the vehicle to travel straight as the road curved to the left.
The vehicle left the road and struck a tree which caused the car to roll and strike another tree. CHP says the car came to rest on its top about 50 feet from the road.
Police say the passenger was able to exit the vehicle but the driver was trapped inside. The passenger was flown to a Modesto hospital with chest trauma, the driver died at the scene.
CHP says both were wearing seatbelts and both airbags deployed. The identities of the two are being withheld pending notification of relatives.
